San Diego
At the request of the city’s Historical Site Board, the San Diego City Council voted Monday to delay for 180 days a building permit for a multipurpose building at the Mission San Diego de Alcala. Monday’s action is the second 180-day delay. The first was approved by the council in October after Historical Site Board members complained that the proposed building would disturb the remains in an old graveyard. The second delay is the last action the city can take to slow the mission’s building plans. According to a city ordinance, the mission can proceed with construction plans after the second 180-day delay expires.
