“The Broadway Album.” Barbra Streisand. Columbia. This album of Broadway standards, which I once considered lusterless, was slowly growing on me. Then I heard the CD, with its remarkable sound quality--particularly those piercing high notes. My admiration for this collection has grown even more. On the CD, Streisand’s voice has a stunning clarity that isn’t there on the album. Her tone seems warmer, too, heightening the emotional impact of songs like “If I Loved You.” An extra song, the amusing “Adelaide’s Lament,” was added to the CD.
