AND ON OUR RADIO DIAL: KMET-FM, which has suffered from a bad case of ratings blues lately, recently overhauled its deejay lineup, letting go morning man (and 10-year vet) Jeff Gonzer, as well as Billy Juggs, Ace Young and Dusty Street. (The new Arbitron monthly ratings--for February--showed KMET at a 2.9 share, while KROQ-FM was up to a 4.4 share.) But according to assistant program director/deejay Sky Daniels, the changes are more than just cosmetic. “We’d like to shake things up, especially in terms of trying to play a lot more local music,” he said. “We’re looking for good local bands to showcase on the air, and not just in some late-night ghetto slot. We’d like all sorts of music, not just heavy-metal or modern pop, but any local acts that have a fresh sound. We’d like to play local groups like the Rave-Ups and have people start saying again, ‘Hey, KMET is really on top of things.’ ” With that in mind, Daniels will be auditioning new tapes or records from local groups.
