Associated Press
BELFAST, Northern Ireland — Police said they fired 125 plastic bullets to disperse stone-throwing Protestant rioters who battled police in the town of Portadown today. Police reported 49 people injured in the street battles.
Police said 36 civilians and 13 policemen were injured in the town of 14,000 during a series of afternoon clashes that started after at least 3,000 Protestants took to the streets in the early morning darkness to defy authorities who banned a Protestant march.
