One fan was stabbed, at least 28 persons were arrested, and a home-made bomb exploded without causing any injuries during weekend spectator violence in the Netherlands, police said.
The stabbing took place Saturday near the railroad station in the central Dutch city of Alkmaar, after a group of supporters of the visiting soccer team PSV Eindhoven arrived for their team’s game Sunday against AZ ’67 Alkmaar.
The victim, a PSV fan, was hospitalized.
On Sunday, dozens of officers were called in to keep arriving PSV supporters from pouring into the center of Alkmaar, a city of about 70,000. During the match, there were further confrontations between supporters of the two teams, and a home-made pipe bomb was thrown into the PSV section of the stands, but the explosion failed to shatter the pipe.
