Santa Anas Bring 90-Degree Heat; Cooler Days Seen

Santa Ana winds boosted Southland temperatures into the 90s Sunday, but the National Weather Service said a cooling trend should begin late today.

A high-pressure area over Nevada and Utah that has been pushing hot, dry desert air westward to the coastline for the past few days is weaking and beginning to disintegrate, meteorologists said, and that means the afternoon sea breeze should penetrate farther and farther inland as the days pass.

Sunday’s high at Los Angeles Civic Center was 92 degrees, with relative humidity ranging from a dry 33% overnight to a parched 11% by mid-afternoon. But forecasters said today should be 6 or 7 degrees cooler, with some fog and low clouds developing along the coast tonight and Tuesday morning.
