Reagan to Meet Philippines’ Laurel, Telephone Marcos
WASHINGTON — President Reagan will meet with Philippine Vice President Salvador Laurel during his visit to Bali next week, the White House announced today.
Laurel, who is also the Philippine foreign minister, will be in Bali for a meeting of regional foreign ministers, which Reagan will attend on May 1.
White House spokesman Larry Speakes also said there is a “good possibility” Reagan will telephone Philippine President Corazon Aquino before leaving Thursday for Bali and an economic summit meeting in Tokyo.
On Monday, Speakes said Reagan plans to telephone former Philippine President Ferdinand E. Marcos while in Honolulu on his way to the Tokyo summit.
It will be the first conversation between the two since Marcos left office at the end of February, Speakes said. He added, however, that Reagan will not meet Marcos face to face.
