Reagan Telephones Aquino, Invites Her to Visit U.S. in Fall
MANILA — President Reagan telephoned President Corazon Aquino for the first time since she came to power two months ago and invited her to visit the United States, officials said today.
A government statement said the conversation took place at 11 p.m. local time Thursday and lasted about three minutes.
According to the statement, Reagan suggested a date for the visit sometime after the U.S. elections in November.
Aquino told Reagan she would be delighted to visit the United States, where she and her husband, Benigno, lived in exile three years before he returned home Aug. 21, 1983, and was assassinated as he deplaned.
