San Diego
A Clairemont man was sentenced Tuesday to 26 years to life in state prison for fatally stabbing his ex-roommate.
Kevin McEachern, 27, was convicted of first-degree murder Feb. 25 in the June 26 death of Debra Huerta, 23, whose body was found July 6, wrapped in a plastic garment bag, near San Clemente Canyon.
A co-defendant, Tony Castleman, 23, also of Clairemont, will be sentenced May 9. Another jury found him guilty of second-degree murder in March.
Both trials were held before San Diego Superior Court Judge Kenneth Johns, who sentenced McEachern.
The victim was initially buried in San Clemente Canyon, but the body was dug up two days later and left at the side of a highway after the defendants’ truck broke down.
Both defendants worked as tree trimmers in Clairemont.
