Gunmen Enter N.Y. Apartment, Kill 4 in Drug Slaying
NEW YORK — Two masked gunmen burst into a Bronx housing project apartment early today and killed four young men--three as they slept--in what police described as drug-related slayings linked to “crack,” a potent form of cocaine.
The gunmen shot and wounded a fifth man but left three women and a retarded child unharmed, police said. The wounded man was taken to Jacobi Hospital with a shoulder injury.
“Drugs are involved,” Lt. Vernon Geberth of the Bronx detective squad said. “A little bit of crack was found on some of the victims.”
All the victims, who were not identified, were between 18 and 23, he said.
