Californians who accidentally omitted information from their voter registration applications would be allowed to cast their votes in the June 3 primary under legislation sent to Gov. George Deukmejian. The legislation was introduced after Secretary of State March Fong Eu threatened to throw out approximately 300,000 voter registration forms because applicants had neglected to include such information as their middle names, occupations or party affiliations. It was Eu’s policy to validate the registration forms regardless of the omissions, but an opinion from the attorney general’s office found the practice violated state law. The bill went to the governor on unanimous votes of Assembly and Senate.
