San Diego
A man seen shaving in a library restroom Monday was subsequently arrested and turned over to FBI agents in connection with the hold-up of a downtown San Diego bank, a police spokesman said.
Shortly after 3 p.m., a man entered the Great American Federal Savings and Loan office at 6th Avenue and B Street and handed a teller a note claiming that he had a gun and demanding money. As the man fled, he was pursued by bank employees and customers, but escaped, said Bill Robinson, a San Diego Police Department spokesman.
Within an hour, police received a call from an employee at the central public library at 8th Avenue and E Street, reporting that a man was shaving and changing clothes in a restroom, Robinson said. Officers responding to the call noticed that the man fit the description of the bandit. They took him to the bank office, where he was identified by employees, Robinson said.
Herschel Perkins, a 46-year-old transient, was arrested on suspicion of robbery. He was turned over to FBI agents, who were expected to book him for armed robbery, Robinson said.
