Model’s Face Slashed in N.Y.; Landlord Held
NEW YORK — Two men armed with a razor slashed the face of a 25-year-old model today in an attack arranged by the woman’s landlord over $850 he owed her, police said.
Marla Hanson of Dallas was hospitalized in stable condition with more than 100 stitches in her face, St. Vincent’s Hospital spokeswoman Caroline McBride said.
“She is conscious,” McBride said. “She has a slash wound on her right cheek and cuts above and below her left eye.”
Hanson’s landlord, Steven Roth, 28, was arrested and charged with assault, police spokeswoman Janice Swinney said.
The two men Roth allegedly hired to attack the model were each charged with first-degree assault, possession of a weapon and resisting arrest, Swinney said.
They were identified as Steven Bowman, 27, and Daren Norman, 20, both of New York City.
The incident began at about 12:05 a.m. when Roth and Hanson met at the Shutters bar where he was supposed to give her $850 he owed her, Sgt. Raymond O’Donnell said.
Instead, he said, Roth asked her to leave with him, and as the couple walked, they were followed by two men. One of the men took out a razor and repeatedly slashed the woman’s face, O’Donnell said. The landlord walked away.
A police unit was in the area and arrested Bowman and Norman as they fled, O’Donnell said.
