50 Flee Gas Leak in Fairfax Area
About 50 people were evacuated from their Fairfax district homes and businesses for about an hour this morning when construction workers ruptured a natural gas main at 3rd Street and Edinburgh Avenue, city fire officials said. The construction crew, working under contract for the Southern California Gas Co., was moving the four-inch gas line to make way for a storm drain when it was punctured, a gas company spokesman said. The line was capped and there were no injuries.
