More than 70,000 illegal aliens were caught and turned back during May by Border Patrol agents in the San Diego sector--a 79% increase over May of 1985, a Border Patrol spokesman said. Among those stopped were 1,708 aliens from countries other than Mexico--almost twice as many as during the same period in 1985. May’s figures represented the third time since the beginning of the year that agents have set a monthly record for the number of aliens caught. Agents of the San Diego sector patrol 66 miles of border, from the Pacific Ocean to the Imperial County line, a spokesman said.
