The House Energy and Commerce subcommittee has approved legislation that would establish the U.S. Boxing Commission, a federally chartered corporation to oversee boxing and establish national safety standards.

The proposed 16-member board would establish minimum health and safety standards in boxing and create a national computer bank that would provide information on boxers’ records and past injuries.

It would also provide information on various trainers as well as on numerous amateur boxers.
