Tough Blaze Burns Near Ramona
A stubborn brush fire charred more than 15 acres four miles east of Ramona near Sutherland Dam on Saturday.
About 150 firefighters had to combat heavy brush and steep terrain to fight the blaze. No injuries were reported, and no structures damaged, said Phil Moe, fire information officer for the California Department of Forestry.
“I understand there’s very heavy brush, some of it 40 feet tall,” Moe said. “This means a lot of hand work.”
The blaze, which started about 1 p.m. Saturday, was expected to be contained sometime this morning, Moe said.
Also Saturday, more than 300 firefighters were still working on a brush fire that has blackened 680 acres in the Flinn Springs area of East San Diego County.
The blaze, which started in Flinn Springs County Park near Interstate 8 on Friday afternoon, also was expected to be fully controlled by this morning.
