Los Angeles Area Deemed Biggest in Remodeling
The Los Angeles area is the nation’s biggest remodeling market by far, racking up a total dollar volume of $611 million last year, according to the first annual listing of the top 50 remodelers in the nation conducted by Remodeling magazine.
The top remodeler in the Los Angeles area, based on 1985 dollar volume, was Pacific Builders, a 60-year-old design/build firm specializing in room additions, second-story additions and kitchens.
The remaining top 10 remodeling markets, along with total 1985 dollar volume, are: Washington, D.C., $217.5 million; Baltimore, $162.4 million; San Francisco, $158.1 million; New York City, $157.4 million; Philadelphia, $156 million; Boston, $153.9 million; Minneapolis-St. Paul, $131.1 million; Detroit, $127.1 million and Nassau-Suffolk counties, N.Y., $126.6 million.
