Costa Mesa’s Saiki Reaches Ladies Golf Final
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Costa Mesa’s Kim Saiki and former U.S. amateur champion Carol Semple Thompson won their semifinal matches Monday and meet today in the final of the 44th annual Broadmoor Ladies Invitational golf tournament.
Saiki, a USC student and graduate of Ocean View High School, and Thompson will play a 36-hole championship round at the par-73, 6,392-yard Broadmoor East course.
Saiki, 19, defeated Cincy Scholefield of Los Angeles, 2-and-1, Monday. Thompson, of Sewickley, Penn., beat Lancy Smith, of Snyder, N.Y., 7-and-6. Thompson was U.S. amateur champion in 1973 and British amateur titlist the following year.
