The Detroit Tigers, whose farm system has been rated the worst among the 26 major league clubs, took steps to remedy that situation by hiring veteran baseball executive Joe McDonald.
McDonald, 57, former general manager of the St. Louis Cardinals and New York Mets, will take over Aug. 1 as vice president of player procurement and development.
