HEART TO HEART
When Felipe Garza Jr., 14, donated his heart to Donna Ashlock before dying of a brain hemorrhage in January, you knew it had to become a TV movie. And it has, for NBC.
Group W and Stonehenge Productions outbid 20 other production companies for the rights in a six-figure deal that will be split equally by the two Patterson, Calif., families.
“Interest in the production community was unprecedented,” said Renee Wayne Golden, an attorney who helped negotiate for the producers.
Donna, 15, now working as a waitress in a fast-food restaurant, told Outtakes, “I hope the movie will be a tribute to Filipe’s kindness so he will be remembered and inspire others. I had only weeks to live and he saved my life. I want the movie to show the importance of organ banks.”
