BRONSKIS BREATHE
“TRUTHDARE DOUBLEDARE,” Bronski Beat. MCA. The Bronskis seem to have found the right vocal vehicle for their propulsive electro-dance pop, campy swing and stirring ballads. While their generally engaging first album tended to go askew every time Jimmy Sommerville launched into one of his piercing, mile-high falsettos, new vocalist John Jon’s more palatable mid-range lets most of the songs on the English trio’s second LP breathe more freely and naturally. The band continues its courageous and honest presentation of gay-related themes. The stylish dance tune “Dr. John” offers a strong encapsulation of the fears and concerns that the AIDS epidemic has caused within the gay community.
