San Marino : Volunteers for Schools
The leaders who coordinated hundreds of volunteers to paint San Marino High School in 1984 have offered to begin another effort to paint the exteriors of Valentine Elementary School and Huntington Junior High School this fall.
At a school board meeting it was announced that Suzanne Crowell and Lois Matthews have offered to lead the project. Crowell led last year’s failed effort to pass a special tax that would have provided additional funds for schools. The same ballot measure failed again in June.
A spokesman said that the district has received special state funding to cover the cost of waterblasting and patching the two schools before they are repainted. A shade of white has been chosen to cover the schools, which have not been painted for a decade.
