Long Beach : School District Measure

The City Council this week approved the final wording of a City Charter amendment to be placed on the Nov. 4 ballot that, if adopted by voters, would institute elections by sub-districts in the Long Beach Unified School District.

The measure, proposed by a group called the Citizens for a Representative School Board, would divide the district into five sub-districts, each of which would elect its own representative to the board. The board’s five members are now elected citywide. A similar measure was defeated by voters in 1984.

Tuesday’s council vote was 5-3 in favor of placing the measure on the ballot.
