Terry Long and David Gregg, University of Maryland basketball players who were with Len Bias the morning he died of cocaine intoxication, have been suspended from the team but will retain their athletic scholarships.
“I believe that indefinite suspension from the basketball team is necessary, given the seriousness of the crime for which these two students have been indicted,” the school’s chancellor, John B. Slaughter, said.
Gregg, a sophomore, and Long, a senior, were indicted for possession of cocaine and obstruction of justice for allegedly removing evidence from the dormitory room in which Bias collapsed June 19, just two days after he was drafted by the NBA champion Boston Celtics.
