Coast Guard Looks for Polish Sailboat
CLEVELAND — The Polish sailboat that arrived late in New York for the Statue of Liberty centennial is overdue in Chicago and the Coast Guard launched a search Friday on the Great Lakes for the vessel.
“We don’t think they’re lost or in any great distress,” Lt. James Meador of the Coast Guard operations center here said Friday night about the Stomil. The 37-foot vessel was sighted by a pleasure craft Thursday afternoon off Manitou Island in northern Lake Michigan, he said.
“She was headed toward Chicago and her radio wasn’t working again,” Meador said. “They just haven’t shown up anywhere they were supposed to on time.”
