It’s Time for Guerrero to Get Into Shape
About Pedro Guerrero: This player is free to come in late and overweight to spring training because he doesn’t like spring practice. He and his wife find that they cannot possibly take care of their personal business in the five months he has off from baseball. Then, because he is out of shape, he seriously hurts himself. Next, he hasn’t played in 102 games, but he’s in the lineup because Tommy Lasorda says, “I go by what he tells me. If he says he wants to play, I let him play.”
I do not regard Mr. Guerrero as the franchise . I think the man has contributed to the club and certainly he had one wonderful month of hitting home runs. But , the man should be sent down to work himself back into shape, something he has been excused from far too long.
Come on, Mr. Lasorda, make the man respect you and the rules that everyone else seems to be able to follow but him.
