The Right Ticket for S.D.

It may not be Times Square, but the Arts Ticket Center is a sign of San Diego’s healthy and growing cultural scene.

Begun earlier this year by the San Diego Theatre League, the ticket center offers theater and concert tickets on the day of performance for half price plus a small service charge.

During a recent visit to the center, the ticket board announced available seats for nine plays and the San Diego Pops concert. Advance tickets for several theaters, at full price, also were on sale.

Situated in the box office of the Spreckels Theater on Broadway, the ticket window is open Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. Half-price Sunday tickets are available on Saturday.

There was a time for arts lovers when summertime in San Diego meant the Old Globe Theatre’s festival, Starlight Opera and the pops. We still have those--in most instances better than before--but now we also have many more opportunities to enjoy an increasingly sophisticated and abundant arts menu.

Half-price tickets are a welcome addition to the scene, making it possible for a broader range of people to take advantage of our cultural amenities and for others to sample them more frequently.
