About 800 nurses striking three city-run hospitals in Boston over wages and duties defied a judge’s order to return to work, forcing the transfer of some patients to other facilities. A Superior Court judge found the nurses in contempt of court and fined their union $1,000 a shift after they defied a restraining order and staged a 48-hour strike. Mayor Raymond Flynn called for the nurses to return to work, saying the three facilities provide care to the city’s poor.
