National Forests in S. California

Four U.S. national forests are located in Southern California:

- The Los Padres National Forest, covering 1.7-million acres and extending, in two segments, from Ventura County to Carmel.

- The Angeles National Forest, sprawling across 641,000 acres along the steep, brushy San Gabriel Mountains from north of Claremont to Castaic Lake.

- The San Bernardino National Forest, rising up from the Antelope Valley into the San Gabriel Mountains of San Bernardino County and extending east and south to the San Jacinto Mountains above Palm Springs. This 659,000-acre forest includes the Big Bear and Lake Arrowhead resort areas.

- Cleveland National Forest, a 567,000-acre tract stretching across the Santa Ana and Laguna Mountain ranges in Orange, Riverside and San Diego counties.
