16 Manuscripts on Display at Getty Museum
Sixteen lavishly illuminated secular manuscripts from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance will be on view at the J. Paul Getty Museum Oct. 22 through Jan. 4.
The show, “Illuminated Secular Manuscripts,” includes one of the most important manuscripts obtained by the museum since the 1983 acquisition of the Ludwig collection, which represents the core of the museum’s manuscript holdings.
The work, called a “Model Book of Calligraphic Scripts,” was a showcase for the calligraphic skills of Georg Bocskay, court secretary to the 16th-Century Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand I. The book was illustrated by Georg Hoefnagel, a renowned Flemish artist and the last of the great European manuscript illuminators, officials said.
The museum is located at 17985 Pacific Coast Highway. Parking reservations are required.
