Los Angeles Street Scene
On behalf of my wife and myself, I would like to thank Sylvia Cunliffe and her staff of organizers for another wonderful time at the Street Scene. We’ve attended the last two years, and we have enjoyed ourselves immensely both times. The bands chosen to play there were satisfying, eclectic, and so was the food.
The violence and the so-called “punk rockers” are being totally overplayed by the media, and certain politicians are overreacting in order to appear “tough on crime.”
The image that sticks most strongly in mind from the Street Scene came during the set by Paul Bowman and his band, which was playing some solid country and western. I looked around us, and saw skinheads, heavy metal kids, blacks, Chicanos, and even some of us white folk from the suburbs all dancing and enjoying this fine band’s set together. That’s what the Street Scene is all about, and we shouldn’t let a few bad apples spoil this terrific event.
