Philharmonic Society Honors Patrons

The Fluor Corp. Properties complex, hardly recognized as a party house, rolled out its red carpet for 250 members and guests of the Orange County Philharmonic Society Women’s Committee patrons event, “Prelude, Opus IV.”

William H. Lane Jr., managing partner for the Orange County division of Tramell-Crow Co. and its financial partners, First Winthrop Corp., were hosts of the three-hour evening, which included an elaborate buffet, modeling of fashions from Fashion Island, music and dancing.

Patrons honored Thursday night were underwriters of OCPS’ 27th annual youth programs benefit luncheon, “Fashion con Brio,” to be held at the Anaheim Hilton on Nov. 5.

After the expansive buffet (jumbo prawns, lobster, decorated poached salmon and brochettes of tenderloin with Madeira sauce) Eric Vollmer, OCPS executive director, told the crowd that the 1986-1987 season is the most exciting ever, focusing around 24 concerts for youth--from second-graders to high school students--in the new Performing Arts Center.

Lane, in his talk, gave credit to George and Janet Chase of Huntington Beach for seeking him out as a corporate sponsor. He looked at the evening as a coming-out party for the company.

“We wanted to get involved (in the community) somehow. I was astounded when Janet Grier (Chairman/OCPS Women’s Committee) told me that the OCPS musical youth programs affect 300,000 children every year in Orange County,” he said.
