Chula Vista
A car carrying two men who police believe had just robbed a Chula Vista liquor store and shot the proprietor collided with a San Diego Trolley on Sunday night, according to Chula Vista police.
The car was struck by the trolley while attempting to cross the tracks on Naples Street at Industrial Boulevard in Chula Vista, said Lt. Dean Girdner. Johnny Munoz, 20, of San Diego, was found inside the car with a minor head injury, Girdner said.
Munoz was treated at UC San Diego Medical Center and booked into County Jail, where he is being held without bail on suspicion of attempted murder, first-degree burglary, robbery and carrying a loaded weapon.
Munoz and another man are suspects in the robbery of the Harborside Liquor store, which occurred minutes before the crash, Girdner said. The store is in the 1000 block of Broadway, six blocks from the accident scene, he said.
Store owner Frank Oraha, 38, told police that a man with a handgun robbed his store of $60 and shot him in the forehead, Girdner said. Although he was hit point-blank with one bullet, Oraha escaped serious injury, police said. He was listed in good condition Monday afternoon at Bay Hospital Medical Center in Chula Vista.
The driver of the car fled the scene of the accident and is still being sought by police, Girdner said.
