The sentencing of admitted spy John A. Walker Jr. was delayed a month, until Nov. 6, by a federal judge in Baltimore at the request of the Navy. In a plea bargain, Walker, presumed head of a spy ring that included his son and brother, had agreed to cooperate with the government in exchange for a sentence that would make him eligible for parole in 10 years. But Walker reportedly has failed lie detector tests concerning the size of the spy ring and who organized it, and the Navy wants more time to assess the scope of and damage done by the ring. The sentencing of Walker’s son also was delayed.
