FAA Grant of $1.6 Million to Help Families Move From Airport Path
INGLEWOOD — The Federal Aviation Administration has granted the city $1.6 million to help relocate families who live on or near La Cienega Boulevard under the flight path of Los Angeles International Airport.
The city started the La Cienega Redevelopment Project more than two years ago to change the noise-impacted residential area to more compatible business and industrial uses. City officials said the grant will allow them to relocate as many as 50 families--roughly half of those left in the area. The city then plans to sell the land to one or more developers for light industrial use. Most of the businesses that have moved into the area so far are airport-related.
City officials said Inglewood is the first city that does not operate an airport to receive an airport improvement grant from the FAA.
