Lake Almanor Childhood
I have just read the Sept. 21 article by Ben Irwin about Lake Almanor. Lake Almanor is where my family spent summer vacations all through the ‘50s and ‘60s. Irwin is right--it is truly magnificent and awesome.
It’s been a while since I’ve thought about those gorgeous sunrises, sleeping on the porch of our trailer and trying to send signals across the lake with our flashlights. . . . Our parents used to give us kids 25 cents a day spending money, and somehow we managed to buy Tootsie Rolls, 50-50 Bars, red licorice, and still have 5 cents left over to play the one pinball machine at Almanor Inn.
We made a lot of friends there, families like ours who went back to “our own spot” year after year. We’re planning our vacation at Plumas Pines next summer and hope we’ll be able to return every summer. Thank you for a great article.
