The NCAA Council restored the eligibility of St. John’s center Marco Baldi, who was barred from playing this season for accepting free airline tickets to his native Italy.
Baldi, who was declared ineligible during the NCAA tournament last season and was later informed that he would be barred from all of the 1986-87 season, was expected to help the Redmen offset the loss of Walter Berry.
However, the council’s subcommittee on eligibility refused to restore the eligibility of Iowa State linebacker Jeff Brasswell, apparently ending his college career.
Brasswell, an All-Big Eight second team player last year, was declared ineligible because of improper conduct by Iowa State while recruiting him at Boone Community College near Ames, Iowa.
