Stricken Buddhist Leader Recuperating
The Venerable Chogyam Trungpa, Rinpoche, 47, one of the best-known Buddhist leaders in North America, is recuperating in his Halifax, Canada, residence after suffering what a spokeswoman called a respiratory and cardiac arrest.
Trungpa, a Tibetan-born spiritual leader who moved to Boulder, Colo., in 1970 and soon began to establish a string of Buddhist meditation centers in North America and Europe, was listed in critical but stable condition for three days at the end of September while in Halifax.
He was released from the hospital Oct. 10, according to Nina Toumanoff of Dharmadhatu, the Los Angeles branch of Vajradhatu, the Boulder-based organization founded by Trungpa.
