Merv Money, a Duarte City Council member, has been named president of the board of directors of Mid-Valley Community Health Council Inc. in Baldwin Park. Audrey Chamberlain of Bradbury was named vice president. The council provides mental health and counseling programs for residents of Baldwin Park, Bradbury, Duarte, El Monte, La Puente, South El Monte and West Covina.

Judith Long, a business professor at Rio Hondo College in Whittier, has been given a special commendation by the Los Angeles Board of Supervisors for her work with the Rio Hondo College Paralegal Internship Program. The program enables 10 to 15 volunteers to participate in consumer counseling and small-claims court advisory programs with the county Department of Consumer Affairs.

Dolores Pedro has been named head librarian at Baldwin Park Library. Pedro previously served as branch librarian at La Pintoresca Library in Pasadena and as government services librarian at West Covina Library.

Bradley B. Williams has been named executive director of the Pasadena Historical Society. Williams previously worked for the San Diego Historical Society and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. He received his doctorate in American studies from the University of Iowa.

Susan Wheeler has been named physical therapy director at CareWest Palomares Center in Pomona. Wheeler graduated from Cal State Long Beach and was previously a physical therapist in San Diego. The center provides physical, occupational and speech therapy programs.

James V. Kirby II has been appointed administrator of Pasadena Community Hospital. Kirby received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Cal State Fresno. The hospital specializes in treatment programs for mental and emotional illnesses and chemical dependency.

John H. Seinfeld, a chemical engineering professor at Caltech in Pasadena, has been awarded the William H. Walker Award from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. The $5,000 award was given to Seinfeld for his work with emission-control methods. Seinfeld lives in Pasadena.

Mary Ann Sund has been appointed principal of Baldwin Stocker Elementary School in Arcadia. Sund replaces Milton Sonnevik, who retired. Sund previously served as principal at Woodcrest Elementary School in the Riverside Unified School District. She received her doctorate in education from the University of Michigan.

Diana C. Linden, an associate professor of biology at Occidental College in Eagle Rock, has received a three-year grant of $78,750 from the Muscular Dystrophy Assn. to further a research project on the “Role of Basal Lamina Proteoglycan in Formation of Neuromuscular Junctions.”

Christopher Villa, a recruitment and admissions coordinator for the Educational Opportunities Program at Cal Poly Pomona, has been selected as an administrative fellow for the California State University system. Villa will develop academic retention programs and plan campus outreach programs for Cal State Long Beach. The CSU Administrative Fellow Program enables CSU faculty and staff members to gain experience in upper-level academic administration.

Richard Vengroff has been appointed director of international development studies at Cal Poly Pomona. Vengroff previously served as director of the Center for Applied International Development Studies at Texas Tech University. Vengroff has served as director and chief investigator of a $2-million training and research development program in Senegal and has conducted field research on political and rural development in Botswana. Vengroff received his doctorate degree from Syracuse University in New York.

Dennis VanderWeele, an associate professor of psychology at Occidental College in Eagle Rock, has been awarded the Graham L. Sterling Memorial Award for his outstanding teaching service at the college. VanderWeele previously taught at New York University School of Medicine and at the Institute of Human Nutrition and Obesity Research Center at Columbia University.

The Rev. Francis Colborn of Claremont has been appointed Roman Catholic chaplain of the Claremont Colleges. Colborn previously taught theology at St. John’s Seminary in Camarillo. Colborn received his doctorate in theology from the Gregorian University in Rome.

Karl G. Kohn of Claremont has received a $15,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. Kohn will use the grant to develop a concerto for two pianos.

Pat Bushman, superintendent of the Glendora Unified School District, has been elected president of the Glendora Kiwanis Club.
