Irvine : 1,400 Participate in Heart and Sole Classic
Close to 1,400 joggers, walkers and bicyclists participated Saturday in the Heart and Sole Classic, the sixth annual event to raise funds for the county chapter of the American Heart Assn.
Eighty-two companies also participated in the event, which was co-sponsored by the Orange County Edition of The Times. Participants were asked to seek pledges from corporate sponsors. Barbara Clark, one of the organizers of the event, said the $70,000 goal was met, although final figures will not be available until next week when all funds are collected.
Slightly more than 1,000 of the participants walked or ran five or 10 kilometers, while 325 bicyclists toured a 14-mile path. Prizes were not awarded to top finishers, although participants who raised the most money will receive prizes later, Clark said.
