Doty Wins Before Record Ascot Crowd
Brad Doty of Fredericksburg, Ohio, scored an upset victory in the World of Outlaws’ $90,000 Pacific Coast Sprint Car Nationals Saturday night at Ascot Park before 8,784 fans, most ever for a four-wheel event at the Gardena track.
Bobby Davis Jr. of Memphis finished second, while Doty’s teammate, Steve Kinser of Bloominton, Ind., the No. 1 driver for the Coors/Gambler team, finished third. Sammy Swindell of Bartlett, Tenn., who had won all four previous World of Outlaw events at Ascot, finished fourth.
Doty, who pocketed $19,740, had won only one other event on the World of Outlaw tour. That victory was at Kings Speedway in Hanford Feb. 26.
Kinser, the World of Outlaw tour’s leading money winner with 18 victories going into the weekend, won $5,500 to push his earning this year to nearly $320,000.
