Man Held Without Bail as Threat to Reagan

SPOKANE, Wash. — A U.S. magistrate on Thursday ordered a man detained for at least 10 days without bail as a threat to President Reagan because he compiled a list of license plates on cars driven by Secret Service agents.
Magistrate S.P. Myers said Robert W. Nelson Jr., 23, of Tacoma, Wash., may be on parole for state crimes and ordered authorities to investigate his background before his next court hearing on Nov. 7.
Nelson was arrested Wednesday night after Secret Service agents matched his handwriting to the handwritten list found in a hotel.
