U.S. Charges Mich. Publisher
WASHINGTON — The government filed criminal charges today against conservative Michigan publisher John McGoff for failing to register as an agent of South Africa.
The criminal information against McGoff charges the 61-year-old president of Global Communications Corp. with willfully failing to register as an agent of the Republic of South Africa from early 1974 to the present. During that time, the information said, South Africa financed McGoff’s effort to buy the now-defunct Washington Star newspaper and a half interest in UPITN Corp., an international news film distribution company.
