Birmingham Keeps Playoff Hopes Alive, Stuns Canoga Park, 16-13
Mike Flores scored a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter as Birmingham rallied for a 16-13 upset of Canoga Park on Friday night at Birmingham.
The loss dropped Canoga Park (5-3, 3-1 in league) into a three-way tie for first place with Chatsworth and Taft in the Sunset League. Birmingham (5-3, 2-2 in league) remained in the running for a playoff berth.
Canoga Park, which moved into first place last week, opened a 13-0 lead at the half behind a defense that held Birmingham to 53 yards. Pete Marine caught a 20-yard touchdown pass from Jeff Myers to open the scoring, and Mike Conover, who ran for 85 yards in the first half, scored on a nine-yard run.
Birmingham rallied behind a defense that limited Canoga Park to 30 yards passing and Conover to 11 yards rushing in the second half.
Early in the fourth period Flores scored on a one-yard touchdown run to cut Canoga Park’s lead to 13-8 following a two-point conversion run by Jason Shaffer.
