STATISTICAL WATCH : Bell Gains Ground on Crespi’s White
Despite an incredible season, Crespi running back Russell White can lose the Valley rushing title. Harvard’s Andy Bell trails White by 67 yards with one regular-season game remaining. White has gained 1,468 yards to Bell’s 1,401. Each has 18 touchdowns, but White has been more efficient, averaging 12.9 yards a carry to Bell’s 8.1.
Passing: The race for the area’s most productive quarterback is even closer than the White-Bell battle. Canyon’s Ken Sollom and Hart’s Jim Bonds both have attempted 199 passes and are separated by only four yards. Sollom has completed 115 of 199 attempts for 2,037 yards and 21 touchdowns with 5 interceptions. Bonds is 125 of 199 for 2,033 with 27 touchdowns and 5 interceptions.
Department of omissions: Hart’s passing statistics were incorrectly reported in Sunday’s editions. The team has 2,115 passing yards, the best in the Valley. Chaminade running back Sean Burwell and his 979 yards were left off the rushing list. Burwell, a sophomore, ranks third behind White and Bell among Southern Section ball carriers. VALLEY TOP 10
