Mutilated Torso Held to Be That of County Man
LITCHFIELD, Conn. — A mutilated torso found at a highway rest area was identified Friday as the remains of a native of Garden Grove, a man with a long arrest record, state police said.
The body of Jack Franklin Andrews, which was found dismembered Monday at a Route 8 rest area, was identified through fingerprints by the FBI in Washington, state police said.
Andrews had used at least four other names and had listed at least three birth dates that would have made him between 25 and 27 years old, state police said.
The victim’s record included arrests in California, Kansas, Florida, Tennessee and Oregon, but he had not been arrested in Connecticut, said Sgt. Daniel Lewis, a state police spokesman.
The charges in other states included burglary, possession of stolen property, assault with a weapon, providing false information and assignation to commit prostitution, Lewis said.
The torso, which had the head and legs removed and was castrated, was found by a truck driver at the rest area on Route 8 northbound at the Litchfield-Thomaston town line, state police said.
An autopsy by the chief state medical examiner’s office found no lethal injuries to the torso, and authorities said Andrews may have been dismembered while alive.
Andrews also used aliases including Jack Franklin Walsh, Jack F. Welsh, Charles E. West and John E. Davison, state police said.
He was described as a white male, 5-foot-9 and 135 pounds with red hair and blue eyes.
