Greece to Get Soviet Briefing on Arms Ties
United Press International
ATHENS — Soviet leader Mikhail S. Gorbachev dispatched his Geneva arms negotiator to Athens on Thursday to brief Prime Minister Andreas Papandreou on U.S.-Soviet relations, a government spokesman said.
The spokesman, announcing the visit Wednesday, also said the United States will not be sending a representative to Greece for a similar briefing.
He said Viktor P. Karpov, the principal Soviet arms negotiator, will brief Papandreou on the “U.S. disarmament talks and the current situation between the two superpowers after the Reykjavik meeting.”
