ORANGE COUNTY PREP BASKETBALL : Girls’ Roundup : Hansen Sparks Woodbridge’s Victory Over Esperanza

Senior guard Nina Hansen scored 8 points, had 7 steals and 12 assists Thursday night to lead Woodbridge High School to a 55-38 victory over Esperanza night in the quarterfinals of Brea-Olinda girls’ basketball tournament.

The Warriors (5-1) play host to Brea at 7:30 tonight in a semifinal.

Gilly Powell scored 12 points and had 14 rebounds for Woodbridge and Karen Davidson scored 13 for Esperanza (3-1).

In the Beverly Hills Tournament:

Estancia 57, El Segundo 23--After leading 10-4 at the end of the first quarter, the Eagles outscored El Segundo, 22-2, in the second quarter and won easily.

Sophomore Debbie Keyes was the game’s high scorer with 16 points for Estancia (2-3), which plays Bellflower in the consolation semifinals at 4 o’clock today.

Senior Robin Greener added eight points for Estancia.

In the Artesia Tournament:

Mater Dei 64, Lakewood 54--Guard Geri Ganey scored 21 points and center Kelly O’Brien added 14 in the victory for the Monarchs (5-1). Guard Vonda Anderson had 21 points and center Magaret Stewart had 16 to lead Lakewood (3-2).

In nonleague:

Cypress 50, Capistrano Valley 41--Senior forward Liz Crosdale scored 24 points and teammate Dinanne Pohl added 11 to lead the Centurions (1-2) in Cypress.

Shelly Vierhut scored 14 points and Holly Anderson and Caylin Combs 11 each for Capistrano Valley.

Kennedy 71, Buena Park 40--Forward Ursula Lovely scored 24 points and had 14 rebounds for the Irish (1-2) at Kennedy. Teammate Ronnie Ahnee added 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Westminster 69, Newport Harbor 41--Senior guard Devon Akita scored 18 points in pacing the Lions (4-1) at Westminster.

Junior guard Shannon Bates added 12 for the Lions and center Jenny Stucker led the Sailors (1-2) with 12.

Los Altos 60, Santa Ana Valley 28--Despite 12 points from Susan Hatchett, the Falcons (1-2) lost at home.

Bolsa Grande 37, Anaheim 22--Dorene Day scored 13 points to lead the Matadors to an easy win at home.

Ocean View 46, Montebello 32--Darlene Lawson scored 22 and Cindi Hurzele added 10 for the Seahawks (3-3).
