The Region - News from Dec. 15, 1986
Two men were slain in separate drive-by shootings that police said were evidently committed by the same gunmen. Stanley Flowers, 25, was struck in the back by a shotgun blast fired from a green Chevrolet station wagon in the 1500 block of West Piru Street in Compton. He died at Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center at about the same time Compton officers found Gregory Johns, 20, lying in the street in the 200 block of North Sloan Avenue. Johns had been hit in the upper body with a shotgun blast that witnesses said also was fired from a green Chevrolet station wagon. He was dead on arrival at Dominguez Valley Medical Center. Detectives said they think the killings are gang-related and may have arisen from a dispute between rival gangs earlier in the day.
